Explorable Explanations: Interactive Essays

Essays that readers can play with, where changing a number is part of the argument

Interactive explanations · Communication · Web publishing

An introductory workshop, for graduate students and up.

Abstract

Draft, not yet checked by me

A workshop at the Winter Institute in Digital Humanities on explorable explanations: essays and articles that readers can play with, where adjusting a number, running a simulation, or playing a small game is part of the argument itself. I look at what the form does well, how these pieces invite readers to discover an idea rather than be told it, and how scholars in the humanities and beyond might use interactive essays to share their own work.
