Some Algorithmic Excursions

A first tour of algorithmic thinking for pre-university mathematics students

Recreational mathematics · Combinatorics

An introductory outreach talk, for school students.

Abstract

Draft, not yet checked by me

I gave this talk at a Science Academies' workshop in elementary mathematics for pre-university students, as a few excursions into algorithmic thinking: seeing a problem as a task that calls for a step-by-step procedure as well as a question with an answer, and asking how quickly such a procedure can get the job done. It is meant for students who are meeting these ideas for the first time.
